Description

This collection features four authentic 19th-century style powder horns, essential gear for any frontiersman or black powder enthusiast. Each horn displays unique characteristics: one retains a striking blue-painted finish, another features a detailed, multi-ringed turned wooden spout, and the smallest exhibits a deep, polished ebony patina with its original jute carry cord. These utilitarian pieces are crafted from natural bovine horn with hand-fitted wooden end caps and stoppers. The items show a wonderful aged character consistent with mid-to-late 1800s field use, including surface oxidation, minor wood shrinkage, and some expected loss to the painted finish. The spouts and plugs appear intact, though they show typical wear and minor abrasions from age. Individual lengths: 6″, 7.75″, 8.75″, and 12.5″. Overall lot: H 12.5″, W 4″, D 4″.
