Description

This striking set showcases the vibrant “Reservation Blue” palette typical of mid-20th-century Plains or Plateau beadwork. The ensemble includes a tapered knife scabbard and a small, coordinating pouch featuring a butterfly-style geometric motif. Closer inspection reveals the pouch is designed as a decorative accessory; while it has a dimensional opening, the flap is integrated into the structure, typical of “strike-a-light” or ceremonial medicine bags meant to hold specific charms or simply serve as regalia. Both pieces are built on a dark, brain-tanned leather base, with the pouch featuring elongated hide tassels finished with traditional tin cone “jingles.” The scabbard is personalized with the initials “L.B.” and features a multicolored twisted beaded strap. The beadwork is executed in a tight “lazy stitch” or lane stitch. Both items remain in very good condition with minimal bead loss; however, the leather shows expected age-related stiffening, and there is minor fraying to the hide thongs and interior fabric lining of the scabbard. H 10.25″, W 3.25″ (Scabbard); H 4″, W 4″ (Pouch). Please see photos for condition.
