Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2010:
Description
Handcrafted with a refined eye for traditional aesthetics, this buckskin pouch showcases the vibrant “contour” beadwork typical of the Plateau or Great Lakes regions. The front face features a stylized green floral motif with translucent red accents, while the reverse displays a charming geometric chevron pattern in purple and teal. Constructed from soft, smoke-tanned leather with a simple thong-tie handle, the piece exhibits the characteristic seed beads of the early-to-mid 20th century. The leather remains remarkably supple with a warm, aged patina and light surface soiling consistent with authentic use. While the central beaded designs remain vibrant and largely intact, there is notable bead loss along the perimeter fringe and some loose threads at the top opening, common for a textile of this age. H 6.25″, W 3.75″, D 0.5″ Please see photos.
