Description

An intriguing collection of vintage and antique curiosities centered around a dome-top wooden traveler’s box lined with an H.A. Goodrich Hats, Caps & Furs (Chicago) paper label. The eclectic assortment includes six Chinese dragon-motif furniture or decorative hardware pulls (five brass, one steel), a Union Cutlery Co. “Log Cabin” straight razor with its original box, a small leather-wrapped blade, an ivory or bone button, wire bangles, a small magnifying glass, a pair of “Wizard” patented garment/sleeve clips (dated Feb 5, 1889), a miniature bone-handled awl, an antique iron fire striker (steel), and a fascinating lead weight stamped “Hudson Bay” on the rim enclosing a George V Canadian penny. Additionally, the lot features a small brass pocket tobacco or snuff box showing heavy internal oxidation, a small stone, and a clear vial containing remnants of horsehair, beads, and metal tinklers. The items exhibit a range of authentic age-related wear; the main wooden box has significant edge loss, scuffing, and peeling to its leatherette exterior, an interior lining showing heavy wear, and a lid now held on with a crude historical leather strap repair, while the individual components show varying degrees of patina, tarnish, and surface rust consistent with historical utility.
