Description

This lot features a fascinating four-volume collection of historical literature centered on the life and legacy of Thomas Alva Edison. The cornerstone of the group is a 1947 limited first edition of Edison’s Conquest of Mars by Garrett P. Serviss, a seminal early space opera work published by Carcosa House in Los Angeles and individually hand-numbered 509 out of 1,500 copies. Joining it is Wyn Wachhorst’s analytical study Thomas Alva Edison: An American Myth, along with a complete two-volume biographical set of Edison: His Life and Inventions (1910) by Frank Lewis Dyer and Thomas Commerford Martin, published by Harper & Brothers of New York and London. Visually, the collection shows expected handling wear; the two-volume 1910 Harper & Brothers set exhibits heavy foxing and spotting to the interior title pages and text sheets, with minor shelf rubbing to the decorated cloth spines, while the Conquest of Mars volume retains crisp gilt lettering and a tight binding with only minor edge wear. H 8.5″, W 6″, D 5″. Please see photos for condition.
