Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 2019:
Description
An exceptional historical collection focused on early electrical innovation and the recording arts. The foundational pieces include a scarce 1894 London first edition of The Life and Inventions of Thomas Alva Edison by W.K.L. Dickson and Antonia Dickson, published by Chatto & Windus, boasting a blue cloth binding with gilt lettering and an internal tissue-guarded illustration plate. It is accompanied by an 1889 Chicago printing of Edison and His Inventions, edited by J.B. McClure and published by Rhodes & McClure Publishing Company, complete with a frontispiece portrait engraving of a young Edison. Rounding out the lot is specialized mid-to-late 20th-century media: the 1977 Royal Scottish Museum symposium softcover program Phonographs & Gramophones from Edinburgh, alongside a 1997/98 commemorative “Father of Invention” issue of the NARAS Journal marking Edison’s 150th birthday. Objectively, the pieces exhibit condition issues consistent with age, including mild rubbing, surface scuffing, edge and spine bumps to the hardcovers, minor cover creases on the modern publications, and expected toning and light foxing to the 19th-century internal pages, though all volumes remain structurally sound and complete. H 3.5″, W 12″, D 8.5″. Please see photos for condition.
