Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 1070:
Description
This remarkable find features an early 20th-century phonograph cylinder record manufactured by the Consolidated Phonograph Co., Ltd. of Newark, New Jersey. The lot includes the brown wax cylinder itself, an original slip of identifying paper titled “Ragtime Medley” by the Consolidated Quartette (No. 9617). From a collector’s perspective, finding Consolidated records with their identifying slips is a wonderful glimpse into the early independent recording era that challenged the major phonograph monopolies. The cylinder shows surface spotting, mold-like discoloration, and organic wear typical of historic wax storage, though it appears physically stable without major cracks or chips. The paper slip is preserved in a modern plastic sleeve. H 4.5″, W 2.25″, D 2.25″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
