Description
A nineteenth-century Italian School oil painting on canvas, likely a copy of an older work. The verso is indistinctly written, possibly with “Capoletti,” a title, and the date 1893. The painting has four small tear restorations with inpainting: one approximately 1.5″ at the bottom center near the frame’s edge, one in the upper right center, and two other small restorations. The surface is quite dark, has substantial cracking, and needs a cleaning. The frame has losses to the gesso and decoration around the entire perimeter and appears to have been repainted. The painting measures approximately 41.5″H x 33″W, and with the frame, the dimensions are 51.75″H x 41.25″W.
