Description

This tall chest of drawers features design elements consistent with Continental European furniture, likely originating from France or Italy during the mid-to-late 19th century. The piece is a strong example of the Louis Philippe style or a related neoclassical revival, which prioritized clean lines, rounded corners, and functional elegance. The primary wood appears to be Walnut or a high-quality fruitwood (such as Cherry or Pear). The warm, honey-toned patina and fine grain visible on the side panels and drawer fronts are characteristic of European hardwoods from this period. The “semainier” (seven-drawer) style or tall-boy configuration is a classic European form. It features rounded front corners and a simple, molded cornice at the top, which are hallmarks of the Louis Philippe aesthetic. There are seven drawers with recessed panels and are fitted with decorative turned wooden pulls. These pulls, combined with the locks on each drawer, suggest a piece designed for both security and refined domestic use. All locks are present but the provided key only works on the top drawer. The drawers are shallow, only 5″ deep.
This piece likely represents a high-quality European import or a well-crafted American revival piece. In overall good to VG condition. The top has an old crack that has been repaired.
59″ tall, 45″ wide, 21″ deep
