Coin Op & Advertising - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 3
Lot 2385:
Description
This exquisite late 19th-century Victorian corner chair (also known as a “roundabout” chair) is a masterclass in eclectic woodcraft, likely of American or European origin. Crafted from rich, dark walnut, it features a distinctive curved crest rail adorned with high-relief floral and acanthus leaf carvings, accented by circular “boss” motifs that suggest a Neo-Grec or Eastlake influence. The frame is supported by elegant turned spindles and two highly stylized, pierced splats with repeating geometric scrollwork. The seat retains its traditional hand-woven cane, which provides a light, airy contrast to the substantiality of the wood. This piece was specifically designed to tuck neatly into a corner or serve as a desk chair, offering a unique silhouette from every angle. It remains in very good antique condition, showing minor surface scratches and expected wear to the finish on the armrests and legs, with the caning appearing taut and well-preserved. There is some light separation at the wood joints underneath, common for its age, but the structure remains sound. H 32.25″, W 18″, D 18″ Please see photos for condition. Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
