Coin Op & Advertising - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 3
Lot 2380a:
Description
This pair of mid-19th-century side chairs is a quintessential example of the American Rococo Revival style, likely produced between 1850 and 1870. Crafted from a dark-toned hardwood consistent with rosewood or premium mahogany, the chairs feature elaborate, pierce-carved crest rails showcasing deep C-scrolls, floral flourishes, and a central cartouche. They are upholstered in a rose-colored velvet with gimp trim and supported by elegant cabriole legs. These chairs are in fair to good antique condition; the wood displays a warm, aged patina with minor scuffs and surface wear, and the velvet shows typical crushing and fading. Notably, the right rear leg of one chair is loose at the joint and requires re-gluing or professional securing, and the underside dust covers exhibit significant fraying. H 42.75″, W 22″, D 24″. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/ Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
