Description

This striking 19th-century Victorian-era mantle clock was produced by the renowned Ansonia Clock Company of New York. The piece features a distinct nautical or pastoral theme, flanked by two cast spelter figures representing a fisherman and a hunter/woodsman, set upon a finished wood base with a mirrored backing. The ornate brass-finished dial surround boasts elegant scrollwork and a paper-on-metal face featuring the iconic Ansonia “A” trademark. The exposed 8-day brass movement highlights the mechanical artistry typical of high-end Brooklyn-made horology from this period. The movement is confirmed to be in good working order, as it runs well and chimes on the hour. Physically, the clock shows age-appropriate wear, including some tarnishing to the metal figures, minor scuffing on the wood base, and staining/foxing on the clock face near the numeral IX. Most notably, the accompanying glass dome is damaged, with two significant pieces broken away from the base, though the fragments are included.
