Description

This elegant grouping of Art Nouveau vanity items and silver accessories showcases the fluid, organic lines characteristic of the turn of the 20th century. The collection features a stunning hand mirror and hairbrush set, both heavily embossed with classical Art Nouveau motifs, including a high-relief “Lady in the Clouds” or nymph-like figure with flowing hair on the brush, and a central cherub with draped fabric on the mirror. Notable pieces include an English EPNS (Electro-Plated Nickel Silver) match safe or vesta case by P.H.V. & Co., a silver-plate baby spoon marked “Community Plate,” a small chain-link coin purse with a stained fabric lining, and a novelty miniature teapot-style desk clock (modern, made in China). The assortment is rounded out by a cut-glass dresser jar with an embossed silver lid, decorative scissors, a small folding knife, and a footed silent butler with a wooden handle. Condition is fair to good overall; most silver-plated items exhibit significant tarnish, surface wear, and some loss to the plating, while the mirror plate shows age-related silvering loss and “fogging.” The coin purse interior is heavily stained, and the mechanical state of the miniature clock is unknown. Mirror L 10″, W 5.75″; Brush L 9″, W 4″, D 1.75″; Larger Vessel Dia 5″, H 2.75″. Please see photos for condition.
