Description

This late 19th to early 20th-century precision analytical balance is a superb specimen of scientific instrumentation, featuring a sophisticated brass beam mechanism housed within a stately mahogany and glass case. The scale prominently displays the maker’s mark of H. Kohlbusch, New York, on the interior scale plate, and is further identified by an exterior retailer’s plate for the Arthur H. Thomas Co. of Philadelphia, a leading laboratory supplier of the era. This set is complete with its original brass pans, leveling feet, and a lower storage drawer containing glass slides and a small wooden box of assorted weights. The mahogany case exhibits minor surface abrasions and light wear consistent with its age and professional history, while the brass components show a handsome natural patina with very light oxidation. Base has loose side panel that can be glued. The glass panels remain remarkably intact and clear, presenting the piece in excellent displayable condition. H 14.25″, W 16.25″, D 7.75″. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/ Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
