Description

This is an exceptional late 19th to early 20th-century cold-painted bronze figural group from the world-renowned Franz Xaver Bergman studio in Vienna, Austria. The piece captures the height of the Orientalist movement, depicting a Bedouin hunter standing triumphantly upon a detailed lion skin rug while holding a trophy gazelle or sable antelope head. Surrounding the figure are several finely cast accessories, including a flintlock-style long gun, a powder flask, and a water vessel. The underside of the base features the highly desirable “B” in an amphora-style hallmark, a signature mark of the Bergman foundry, along with the “Geschützt” (protected/copyrighted) stamp. The original polychrome finish remains remarkably bold and saturated, though the item exhibits expected antique wear, including minor paint loss and surface rubbing on high points such as the drapery folds and the edges of the base. The casting remains structurally sound with no visible breaks or repairs. H 5.5″, W 6.25″, D 4.5″. Please see photos for condition.
