The Top 300! - Spring Classic Part 2
Lot 199c:
Description
Here is an attractive pre-WWII combination “Drilling” gun crafted by the master makers at Christoph Funk in Suhl, Germany. Manufactured in July 1930, it features a classic 23.5” three-barrel configuration, with side-by-side upper shotgun barrels, chambered in 16g, paired with a lower rifle barrel, chambered in 9.3x72R. They are complemented by a flip-up rear sight and an elegant, deeply engraved receiver depicting detailed game scenes of stags and deer. The barrels are constructed from premium Krupp Fluid Steel (“Krupp Laufstahl”), and the piece features a highly figured walnut stock complete with an exquisite, spring-loaded trapdoor cartridge reservoir on the comb. The flats and water table display traditional Imperial/pre-1939 German proof marks including the Crown over “U”, “S”, and “W” stamps, alongside the “Nitro” proof and serial number 36928. Overall, this is a beautiful firearm in overall good condition. The wood stock exhibits some moderate handling scrawls and surface scratches while the checkering remains distinct, the elaborate engraving shows crisp definition, and the metalwork retains a clean finish. The barrels show minor handling marks. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Please see photos for overall condition. This is a piece you don’t want to pass up and would complement any collection
