Description

A fascinating 10-piece collection of early 20th-century phonograph advertising ephemera that serves as a wonderful time capsule into the aggressive marketing war of acoustic sound reproduction. From an expert’s view, this lot is particularly desirable because it spans a diverse cross-section of the industry, capturing major players like Edison and Columbia Graphophone alongside the shorter-lived, fascinatingly complex dual-horn designs of the Duplex Phonograph Co. and the cabinet artistry of Brunswick. The collection is rich with regional history, showcasing print material originating from major commerce hubs like Chicago, Illinois and New York, and even includes a rare National Cigar Co. premium advertisement from Winston, North Carolina, and a striking “The Phonograph Match” safety match label manufactured in Sweden. Visually, the lot includes multiple magazine tear-sheet advertisements, a prominent “Notice” instructional motor-winding sheet from the Rishyll Phonograph Co., and an Edison “Vacation Days” illustrative ad. Objectively, the pieces are in fair to good vintage condition, exhibiting expected signs of age including uniform browning, edge toning, minor corner creasing, occasional surface smudges, and pinholes, with two pieces currently joined together by clear tape. H 10″, W 6.75″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
