The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3460:
Description
As a seasoned collector of early recorded sound history, this is an exceptional and rare group of late 19th-century advertising ephemera from the Columbia Phonograph Co. of Washington, D.C., and New York. Dated circa 1896, the lot includes a 13-page Columbia Records catalogue highlighting legendary early recording pioneers Mr. V.H. Emerson and Mr. Leonard G. Spencer, alongside incredibly scarce illustrated flyers detailing the “Bijou Shaving Knife”—a novel mechanical device used to shave down wax cylinders for reuse on Bijou Graphophones. Printed on period paper, these documents offer a fascinating primary-source glimpse into the dawn of the commercial phonograph industry. The pieces are in good antique condition, exhibiting expected minor toning, original horizontal folding creases, and light edge wear consistent with paper of this age, while maintaining crisp typography and clear illustrations. H 10.75″, W 8.5”, D 0′. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
