Description

This trio of early 20th-century paper booklets captures a pivotal era in recorded sound, originating from Thomas Edison’s National Phonograph Company based in Orange, New Jersey. The lot features three distinct promotional and alphabetical record catalogs: a cream-colored “Edison Moulded Records Domestic Selections” (Catalogue 380) boasting a dealer stamp from S. B. Davega in New York, a vibrant orange “Edison Gold Moulded Records Alphabetically Arranged” marked “For Trade Use Only,” and a thicker “Edison Records” booklet featuring a classic portrait of Thomas Edison within an ornate oval frame on the cover. These artifacts offer an incredible, comprehensive look into the distribution and marketing of early cylinder records. Objectively assessing the collection, the paper covers show minor handling wear, light foxing, and faint surface staining consistent with age; the two thinner booklets have firmly fixed covers, while the largest, thicker booklet exhibits some spine damage and paper loss along the edge, though its binding remains intact. Internally, all three documents remain in good, legible condition with clean pages. H 6.25″, W 3.5″, D 0.5″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
