The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3377:
Description
An exceptional artifact from the dawn of early sound recording history, this original softcover promotional booklet from the Fall Season of 1901 is titled “List of Edison Records” and was produced by the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey. The highly graphic outer cover features an illustrated portrait of Thomas Edison alongside an early phonograph cylinder, proudly boasting that his recordings “Echo all over the World.” Inside its 48 pages, this ephemeral piece contains a comprehensive index detailing the available Concert and Standard cylinder records of the era—spanning orchestrations, brass quartettes, and early vaudeville specialties. Objectively, the booklet exhibits physical wear completely consistent with its age and paper construction; it shows a distinct vertical fold crease down the center of the outer covers, moderate moisture or water staining visible along the lower and interior margins, light edge wear, minor rusting to the original binding staples, and a small dog-eared corner on page 48. H 6″, W 3.5″, D 0.15″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
