The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3324:
Description
This Miraphone is a combination disc music box and phonograph console manufactured by the renowned Swiss firm Mermod Freres starting around 1903. It has a double-comb Swiss music box movement alongside a fully functioning phonograph attachment designed to play 78 RPM records. The phonograph configuration features a speed control governor, a specialized phonograph turntable adapter that slips over the central music box spindle, a dedicated tone arm, soundbox/reproducer, and an internal amplification horn. It is missing the turntable but the spindle runs. The music box plays 18.5”metal discs which were the largest size produced by Mermod Frères. The comb has no chipped or broken teeth. The music box plays well but could use a servicing. The music unit is housed in a brown mahogany bow front console cabinet with 2 doors concealing record and disc storage. The finish on the cabinet is original but has multiple scratches. It comes with 19 discs for the music box. Measures 29” wide, 21.5” deep, 41” tall. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
