Description

This lot is for 2 Thorens Exceldas. The Thorens Excelda is a Swiss-made portable mechanical disc phonograph manufactured by Thorens between 1932 and 1947. Referred to as the “camera phone,” it was designed to break down and store into a compact metal case that looks like a Kodak folding pocket camera from that era. These 2 machines are identical except for the case color; one is blue, one is green. The cases both have minor rusting on the outside. Both are missing the leather carrying strap. The blue one has a wing nut instead of the proper knurled nut to lock the access door. The mechanisms inside both cases are complete and in VG condition. Both motors wind. The green one has hard grease and the motor will need to be serviced. The blue one runs. Both measure 11” long, 4.75” wide, 2” deep. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
