The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3073:
Description
This striking early 20th-century portrait captures the brilliant mind of inventor Thomas Alva Edison in a dignified, bust-length pose wearing a dark suit and bow tie. Based on the close-up visual details, the piece features a clear artist signature and date in the lower right corner reading “Ellis Allen 1929″. While the artwork displays a pronounced, heavy brushwork texture meant to mimic an oil painting, it is a textured print or enhanced lithograph mounted on a rigid hardboard backing. The portrait is beautifully mounted in a period-correct, ornate gilt gesso wood frame displaying classical geometric and egg-and-dart borders. Objectively assessing its condition from the provided images, the frame shows expected surface wear, light scuffing, and minor finish degradation consistent with age, while the artwork surface displays moderate clouding, spotting, and surface dust under the protective glass. H 27″, W 22″, D 1”. Please see photos for condition. Note: Pickup/Transport required.ntacts available Post-Auction. From the Allen Koenigsberg Collection
