The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3047:
Description
This incredibly rare 1892 industrial photography album, titled, “With Edison at Schenectady”, was compiled and published by Wm. H. Butler and features rare photographs printed on Aristotype Paper specially prepared by the American Aristotype Co. of Jamestown, N.Y. As an extraordinary piece of early American industrial history, it documents the rapid expansion of Thomas Edison’s General Electric Company works in Schenectady, New York, capturing highly detailed views of the Power Station, the Wire Department, heavy machinery rooms, and overhead crane-operated shops. The album contains 24 historical photographs mounted one per page on heavy cardstock sheets and appears to be complete. Physically, the album shows significant age and wear; the exterior binding on the spine is completely missing, leaving frayed binding threads and exposed page edges, while the outer boards exhibit moderate foxing, surface smudging, edge scraping, and bumped corners. H 8.75″, W 12″, D 3″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
