Description

A 2 latch Edison Standard cylinder phonograph with a Polyphone attachment and 2 original horns. The Polyphone attachment was an aftermarket modification designed for early cylinder phonographs. It was invented and patented in 1898 by Leon Douglass, who later became president of the Victor Talking Machine Company. It was marketed by the Talking Machine Company of Chicago. It is the only aftermarket accessory that Thomas Edison officially sanctioned for use on his machines. The machine itself is in VG original condition. Good paint on the bedplate with faint pinstripe. Original finish oak case. Lid has a small split in one corner. Motor winds and runs but needs a new belt. Mandrel spins freely. Both reproducers are missing the stylus bars and links. The horns are original and retain 60% original paint. Both horns have the distinctive rings to join the horns. Measures 12″ wide, 8.75″ deep, 22″ to the top of the horns. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
