Description

This spectacular, museum-quality 1894 Imperial Russian broadside poster archives a public demonstration of Thomas Edison’s “newest and most improved” phonograph at the Paradise Theatre in Moscow. Printed by the Typo-Lithography of V. A. Prosin undethe strict censorship approval of Moscow’s Chief of Police, Major-General Yurkovsky, this exceptionally rare piece of historical ephemera features a detailed program of recorded selections from the “European Phonograph Tournée Co.” time capsule, inuding the Russian Imperial anthem “God Save the Tsar”, military marches, and classical theatrical monologues. Housed in a decorative gilt and dark wood frame, the vintage paper itself measures 18 inches wide by 24 inches tall and is in excellent coition with no detrimental tears or creases; a close inspection around the edge reveals a slight coloration indicating it was housed in a different frame prior to its current preservation. The frame exhibits minor surface wear consistent with age. Poster: H 24″, W 18″, D 0″. Frame: H 28.75″, W 22.75″, D 1″. See photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg Collection
