Description

This exceptional collection of six original 19th-century illustrated newspaper pages documents the historic evolution of Thomas Edison’s phonograph and acoustic inventions, featuring original sheets from Scientific American (1878), The Illustrated London News (1888), Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper (1888, 1890), and Harper’s Weekly (1878, 1889). These magnificent woodblock engravings beautifully capture pivotal moments in sound recording history, including the earliest tinfoil phonograph, demonstrations at the Paris Exposition, the Handel Festival at Crystal Palace, and Edison’s megaphone. The pages exhibit typical antique wear, including age-related toning, minor edge fraying, small tears, light foxing, and creasing consistent with historic paper ephemera, but the text and detailed artwork remain crisp and highly displayable inside their six protective plastic sleeves. H 17″, W 11″, D 0.1″. Some items not shown in photos. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsg collection.
