Description

Here is a remarkable, and highly desirable 1943 dated U.S. Army Colt M1911A1 pistol chambered in .45 caliber. Serving through both World Wars, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, the M1911 was the standard issue sidearm of the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. This single-action, recoil operated semi-automatic pistol is renowned for its reliability and stopping power and has made a mark in the history books of the U.S. Armed Forces. The M1911A1went through a few design changes from the original model to include, a shorter trigger, a curved mainspring housing, finger relief cutouts to the frame behind the trigger, extended grip safety spur to prevent “hammer bite,” and a wider front sight and a square-notch rear sight for faster target acquisition. This particular pistol displays the “M1911A1 U.S. Army” and “United States Property” stampings on the right side of the frame, along with the serial number “1153291.” A crossed cannons ordnance stamp is also clearly visible on the right side of the frame behind the grip panel. The left side of the frame displays the inspector mark for Brig General Guy H. Drewry “GHD”, along with the “P” proof marking. The trigger guard has the “VP” in a triangle, “48”, and “F” stampings. Barrel is marked “Colt 45 Auto” with a “F” and “P” stamping. The parkerized finish is in really good condition for its age, only showing holster wear on the edges and little wear on the slide from the action. Bore and rifling are clean and in good condition. The plastic grips are like new, showing no wear. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Comes with one blued magazine with no markings. This is a phenomenal piece of military and firearm history that is well preserved. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: 1153291. C&R Eligible.
