Description

A classic Italian Vetterli-Vitali Model 1870/87/15 bolt-action rifle manufactured at the Turin Arsenal in 1873 and chambered in 6.5x52mm Carcano. This rifle features the 1887 Vitali box magazine conversion, which upgraded the platform from a single-shot to a four-round repeater. It is also equipped with the 4th variation rear sight, which adjusted to the 6.5x52mm Carcano round. The serial number “B9609” is clearly stamped on the breech, along with the year of manufacture “1873” and the arsenal marking. Metalwork shows a consistent dark brown patina with surface oxidation. The walnut stock is in overall good condition, with a small crack visible on the buttstock. Usage and storage marks are also visible on the stock, consistent with field use and age. Stock bears several stampings to include an inspection cartouche dated “1881” on the right side of the butt stock, a second faded inspection cartouche on the left side of the buttstock, and the serial number “B9609”. The rifle does retain its original cleaning rod; however, the rifle magazine is missing. Bore does show some oxidation, but the rifling is very strong. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: B9609
