Lot 1015:
Description
This classic Remington Model 12A is a quintessential American “gallery gun,” featuring the sleek, John Pedersen-designed takedown action that made these rifles a staple of early 20th-century marksmanship. Manufactured by Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. in Ilion, New York, this rifle is chambered for .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle cartridges and displays the iconic “Remington UMC” markings on the receiver and the original hard rubber butt plate. The walnut stock and ribbed “corncob” forend reflect the craftsmanship of an era when these were the go-to choice for small game and target shooting. The rifle, manufactured in 1916, shows honest wear consistent with its age, including thinning of the original blued finish to a gray patina and minor handling marks on the wood. The hard rubber but plate has a chip missing from the toe. Bore has some freckling and rifling is rounded. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly.
