Description

World War I Amberg manufactured Sporterized GEW 98 chambered in 30.06. This sporterized rifle displays the serial number “4459” and date “1918” on the receiver. The smaller parts (tang, floor plate, screws, follower) are inscribed with “59”. Bolt is not matching and displays the serial number “4550” and “8926”. Barrel is stamped with “UA” over a flaming bombing, indicating it was inspected and accepted into U.S. Army Ordnance Department. The rifle is equipped with a Lyman rear peep sight. Overall, the metal parts show no sign of oxidation, and display a nice, blued finish. The wood stock displays clear coat imperfections from sitting in a case, but no dings or scratches.
