Lot 183:
Description
This is an incredible piece of amusement park history: a set of three saddle bar stools with their custom wooden stand, all sourced directly from the Sarsaparilla Saloon at Donley’s Wild West Town in Union, IL, which operated from 1974 to 2019. The saddles themselves are highly decorative Western-style saddles, likely made of tooled and embossed leather, mounted on heavy black metal posts with distinctive red/orange flame-like detailing at the base. One saddle is a darker, almost black leather with extensive tooling and silver-colored studding/conchos, while the other two are a rich brown. These items were clearly repurposed from actual, older saddles to function as bar stools, lending an authentic, rugged feel to the theme park’s saloon. The original tooling and embellishments are still visible, especially the floral/leaf patterns. All three saddles show significant, honest wear consistent with decades of heavy use in a commercial setting, including scuffing, minor tears, fading, and cracking in the leather, particularly on the seats and fenders, which adds to their historical charm and provenance. The custom wooden base is sturdy and appears structurally sound, showing expected scuffs and dings from commercial use and transport. Items pictured include the three saddle bar stools and the custom wooden stand. The estimated measurements for the full unit are: H 44″, W 76″, D 23″. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
