Description
Manufactured by the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, North Tonawanda, NY. Originally a De Kleist barrel organ that was factory converted to play 125 Wurlitzer organ music rolls. Looks to be mechanically complete. Carvings, facade and case are in overall good condition. Older restoration and plays strong. Has over 100 pipes, snare drum, cymbal, and bass drum. Music is arranged so that 4 different instruments can be played at the same time; baritones, melody, accompaniment, and trumpets.
This was the first band organ and second large mechanical music instrument that Frank Rider ever acquired. The story goes that it was purchased on New Year’s Eve from a roadside market in Valparaiso, IN. It is a very early Wurlitzer, factory converted from most likely a De Kleist barrel piano as the two companies often collaborated on machines. It is believed to be a model 125.
