Lot 2097:
Description
This is a Turkish M1935 modification of an original Ottoman M1903 bayonet, manufactured by Mauser. While it retains the original 19th-century Tughra (Sultan’s seal) and the Islamic date ???? (1313) on the ricasso, the blade has been shortened and the scabbard professionally reduced by the Turkish armory during the 1930s standardization. The crossguard is stamped with the serial number 35431, and the pommel shows the “AS.FA” (Askeri Fabrika) markings common to these state-factory reworks. It features the classic “bird’s head” pommel and wood grips. The steel shows significant oxidation, darkening, and surface pitting consistent with age and military storage. The wood grips are heavily worn with some bruising, and the scabbard shows light surface rust but remains structurally sound. H 14.75″, W 3″, D 1″
