Description
These seated Hotei figures, often referred to as the “Laughing Buddha,” feature a unique dark finish with a notable green-tinted wash or faux-patina that accentuates the depth of the casting. The heavy ceramic material is molded with classic iconography, including the mala prayer beads and traditional robes, styled in a manner reminiscent of mid-century Asian-inspired garden or hearth decor. The “greenish” tint suggests an intentional weathered aesthetic common in 20th-century decorative arts to mimic aged bronze or stone. Both figures remain structurally sound, though they exhibit minor surface scuffs, light fading to the pigment, and small flea-bite chips around the base edges typical of vintage pottery.
