Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1506:
Description
This collection features six (6) vibrant, hand-carved wooden masks, masterfully crafted in the tradition of Balinese or Javanese folk art, likely depicting the mythical bird-creature Garuda and other protective spirits. Each piece displays the intricate, sharp-edged “Kirtya” style carving and layered polychrome paint typical of mid-to-late 20th-century Indonesian craftsmanship. The masks utilize a bold palette of crimson, forest green, and gold leaf accents to emphasize the ferocious, wide-eyed expressions intended to ward off evil spirits. Objectively, the masks show moderate age-related wear, including some minor paint chipping on the high-relief areas (notably the beaks and tongues), light surface dust, and small scuffs, but they remain structurally sound with no major cracks or missing appendages.
