Large pen & ink B&W drawing on cell depicting the vast Mexican Army on the march for the 1960 movie, The Alamo. Signed lower left J L Jensen. Artist notes in lower left, “Todd AO”, meaning it was a wide screen production, and “Please print with this side up” meaning that it was intended for the opening titles and credits of the movie. In good condition, framed under glass. Measures 17″ tall x 30″ wide (cell) and frame 29″ tall x 41″ wide (frame)
John L. Jensen was a prominent 20th-century Hollywood costume designer, illustrator, and storyboard artist known for his work on iconic films starting in the 1950s, including The Ten Commandments (1956), The Buccaneer (1958), and The Alamo (1960). He specialized in detailed, hand-drawn storyboard illustrations and conceptual art for directors. For The Alamo, Jensen served as a concept artist for Batjac, John Wayne’s production company, producing over 60 pages of hand-drawn storyboard illustrations, including key action scenes and character moments.
