Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1326:
Description
This monumental architectural relief is a masterclass in Qing-style Chinoiserie, likely crafted in the mid-20th century for a grand interior or theater. The piece features a sprawling, high-relief composition of nine traditional Chinese dragons—a number historically associated with imperial power—navigating a sea of stylized “Ruyi” clouds and turbulent waves. The craftsmanship displays intricate scale work and dynamic movement, all framed within a classic gilded egg-and-dart border. Carved primarily from wood with a rich polychrome and gilt finish, the panel shows signs of a seasoned life, including minor surface abrasions, small chips to the gilded high points, and some visible seams where the large panels join, but it remains structurally sound and visually arresting. H 36″, W 270″, D 2.5″ Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
