Description
A delightful representation of Budai, the Laughing Buddha, depicted in a classic “Double Wealth” pose holding two gold ingots (yuanbao) aloft. This piece features a rich, hand-painted polychrome finish in traditional cinnabar red and gold tones over what appears to be a composite or heavy resin material, though it mimics the weight and texture of carved wood. Adorned with a beaded mala necklace and a prominent peach pendant—a symbol of longevity—the figure sits atop a stylized, dark-finished base. The craftsmanship suggests a mid-to-late 20th-century decorative piece, likely of Chinese origin. The item is in good vintage condition with minor surface scuffs, some light paint wear on the high points of the robes, and a small chip visible on the lower front edge of the red garment.
