Description
A monumental 19th-century Chinese architectural element, identified as a primary decorative lintel or fascia beam from a high-status residence or ancestral hall. Carved from a single, massive 7-foot timber, the face features an extraordinary high-relief “Ruyi Cloud” motif, an auspicious symbol representing the fulfillment of wishes and long life. The surface is finished in traditional vermilion lacquer with extensive remains of original gold leaf gilding, showcasing the “Red and Gold” aesthetic prized in Qing Dynasty decor. The reverse remains in its original rough-hewn state, showing heavy adze marks and mounting points consistent with authentic architectural salvage. The beam is in remarkable structural condition, exhibiting a rich, dark patina, expected surface abrasions, and natural longitudinal weathering cracks that do not compromise the integrity of the solid wood.
