Description
A magnificent example of monumental hand-carved woodwork, likely serving as a structural or decorative header from a grand estate or themed commercial interior. The piece features a striking series of deep, volute-style scrolls and intricate floral/foliate relief carvings across the face, finished in a weathered crimson pigment that highlights the artisan’s chisel marks. The top surface includes a central rectangular mortise, indicating it was once joined to a vertical support. Crafted from heavy solid wood, this piece displays a beautiful aged character. The condition is good with honest wear consistent with age and previous architectural use, including scattered scuffs, minor chips to the pigment, and some natural wood checking, particularly on the uncarved top and end grain.
