Description
A rugged piece of mid-century infrastructure, this vintage sign with the directive "TURN OFF HEADLIGHTS" in bold black block lettering against a weathered white background. Constructed from heavy plywood rather than metal, features a painted black border and is equipped with two metal-grommeted mounting holes centered at the top and bottom. The sign bears a small "WIS DOT" (Wisconsin Department of Transportation) marking in the lower right border, attesting to its official government service history. The piece exhibits heavy patina consistent with long-term outdoor exposure, including significant yellowing and vertical staining of the white paint, surface checking, and edge wear. The mounting hardware shows rust oxidation, and the unpainted verso reveals aged wood grain with numerous scratches and stains.
