Description
This porcelain enamel sign represents the dawn of the modern kitchen, advertising "Install Kelvinator Electric Refrigeration" in bold cobalt blue against a stark white field. Manufactured by the renowned Baltimore Enamel company at 200 Fifth Ave, N.Y., as marked on the lower right, this square sign likely dates to the 1920s or 1930s when electric cooling was swiftly replacing the domestic icebox, has mounting holes with some hardware currently attached and wire rigging on the back. Condition includes a significant area of enamel loss and corrosion on the left vertical edge, roughly midway down, along with visible rust staining emanating from the mounting points, general surface wear, and scattered surface scratches typical of age.
