A Classic Opulence and General Antiques Auction ONLINE ONLY
Lot 200a:
Description
An exceptionally bold and masterfully carved mirror, likely of European origin from the mid-to-late 19th century. This piece has a commanding presence, executed in the Rococo Revival style with deep, intricate carving throughout. Note the fantastic clusters of grapes at the base, the floral and C-scroll motifs, and the impressive pierced crest. The dark-stained hardwood, possibly walnut, provides a rich contrast to the simple gilt liner. This is a true statement piece. The frame has several areas of condition issues, including noticeable chips and losses to the carved elements on the crest, side, and base, exposing the lighter wood underneath. The mirror plate is likely original and shows significant age with de silvering and spotting. Measures 90″ tall, 40″ wide, 4″ deep.
Circa 1940’s cast aluminum carousel horse most likely from a San Antonio Roller Works or a Mangles carousel. All we know is that it came off of a carousel that was parted out in southern Illinois in the 1970’s. The horse is a jumper with very nice paint. Comes mounted on a pole and a steel diamond plate base. Comes with a pair of stirrups but no straps or bridle.
