Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1497:
Description
Frank Dougherty American Buffalo Bison This is a striking, highly detailed cast resin sculpture of an American Buffalo, or Bison, by the noted Western artist Frank Dougherty. The piece captures the magnificent posture and textured coat of the animal, resting on a naturalistic base painted to simulate rocky, scrubland terrain with scattered moss or brush elements. The base of the sculpture is prominently marked “AMERICAN BUFFALO – FRANK DOUGHERTY” on one side and “BISON – FRANK DOUGHERTY” on the other, indicating the artist and subject. The underside reveals a hand-signed signature, likely by the artist, in black ink on the brown, oval-shaped base, which also features small protective felt pads. The overall style is realistic and characteristic of contemporary Western wildlife art. The item appears to be in very good overall condition, with no obvious chips or cracks visible in the resin; there is some light surface dust and minor scuffs to the brown and gold painted base rim consistent with display and age. H 10″, W 13.5″, D 7.75″ From the Native American display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
