Description
Antique Sap
This appears to be an antique leather sap, a historical self-defense and police tool often associated with early 20th-century policing or personal protection. The item consists of a tapered, weighted body, likely filled with lead shot or a similar heavy material, all encased in a brown leather covering. The style is simple and utilitarian, consistent with tools manufactured in the late 19th or early 20th century, though a specific manufacturer is impossible to determine without markings. A thin leather wrist strap/thong is attached to the narrower end. Condition is fair to good for its age, showing heavy patina and significant surface wear to the leather covering, including scuffing, discoloration, and a partially open or splitting seam that has been covered with purple adhesive tape in one view. The underlying leather along the body shows heavy dry age and deterioration, but the overall shape seems intact. H 7.25″, W 1.25″, D 1.25”. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
