Description

Antique Miners Tool Lot: 3 Piece Set

This is a fantastic, rustic lot of three antique mining hand tools that immediately evokes the demanding labor of an earlier era. Includes a short-handled shovel (sometimes called a scoop or barn shovel) with a characteristic rounded D-handle, a long-handled hoe/pick with a distinct curved, pointed blade, and a double-pointed pick-style hammer for mining, or railroad work. All three pieces feature heavy oxidation and pitting (rust) on their iron or steel heads, which adds to their rugged aesthetic and speaks to years of use and exposure. The handles are all crafted from hardwood, which has developed a rich patina, particularly the D-handle shovel grip. The shovel head itself is heavily deteriorated, with a large, irregular hole in the center, signifying a life of hard work that finally took its toll. Pickaxe: 22” long by 12.75” long head with shovel width 9.75”. Handled shovel 36” long and shovel with 11.5”. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
