Description

A classic example of late 1920s decorative art, this piece is a striking lithograph or print on canvas board depicting a Native American figure on horseback, arms outstretched, gazing skyward in a scene often titled “The Appeal to the Great Spirit” or similar inspirational themes popular in that era. The work is distinctively marked “1929 Borin Chicago,” identifying the manufacturer, Borin Manufacturing Company, a well-known producer of framed artwork and novelty items for the mass market. The image is housed in its original, decorative giltwood frame with a carved or embossed relief design. The print itself presents with a notable vintage patina, showing signs of age including color fading, particularly in the yellow and blue tones, and surface dirt. The frame exhibits expected wear, nicks, and loss to the gilt finish. Critically, the backing paper is significantly torn, loose, and deteriorated, exposing the back of the print material and potentially the frame’s inner structure. The hanging wire appears intact but shows age. H 18.5″, W 14.5″
