Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1430:
Description
This is a beautiful example of a vintage roulette wheel, likely dating from the early to mid-20th century. The striking burled wood veneer on the surround and the highly polished, rich, honey-toned lacquer of the inner bowl immediately catch the eye. The wheel is a classic American Double Zero configuration, featuring the 0, 00, and numbers 1 through 36, all clearly marked in gold lettering against the traditional red and black pockets, with green for the zeros. The overall construction suggests it was a quality piece, possibly for a home game room or a small, private club. The chrome or nickel-plated center spindle cap is intact and reflects the light nicely. The wheel appears to be in remarkably good, used condition for its age, with the lacquer retaining a high sheen and the numbering crisp. There are scattered light surface scratches and minor wear consistent with use and age, particularly around the edges of the wooden surround and the ball track. A small ivory ball is featured with the table, along with a travel case not pictured. A great display piece for any collector of gambling or Americana artifacts. H 4.5″, W 21.75”.
