Lot 1318:
Description
Iver Johnson “American Automatic” double-action, top-break revolver. While designated an “American Automatic” it is decidedly a revolver, and refers to the revolver’s automatic cartridge ejection feature. This revolver was manufactured in the early 20th century and features a 3 ½-inch, .38 caliber barrel, with a 5-round cylinder. The top of the barrel is marked with “IVER JOHNSON’S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS / FITCHBURG, MASS, U.S.A” and the patent “PAT.NOV 17.08 / PAT’S PENDING” on the butt of the frame. The serial number “36418” is inscribed on bottom of the trigger guard. The frame and barrel have a blued finish which shows lights oxidation and storage/usage wear. The hard grips show a checkering pattern with the “IH” logo and an owl face circular logo. The bore is clean, and the rifling groves are prominent. The action and trigger are smooth and tight. The overall length of the revolver is 7.5″.
